How Group Testing Works
This is an "Economy Administration" for lack of a better
word. Students will take the same Woodcock-Johnson
Basic test as usual but the administration will be
organized for greater efficiency at a central location.
Students will be gathered into a small group for portions
of the test and then taken individually for the interactive
subtests (as is allowed by testing protocol). The biggest
difference is that parents will receive their test
scores and a brief (less than 10 min) explanation of
scores as opposed to a more open ended consultation.
What can you expect from this test administration?
Students will take part of the test with a small group of students and then return
for their individual session. This may make the testing day longer than if you
scheduled on independent test.
Parents will need to wait in the testing facility through both the group and
the individual sessions.
Who is this appropriate for?
Students who are good candidates for this administration generally do not have
any learning difficulties or delays and they should be able to work at an average
speed. If you know that your child is an extremely slow worker this format is
NOT a good option for you. An individual appointment would be much better for
this student and we would be happy to schedule an individual appointment.
Students who are very young, non-readers need an individual appointment.
Limited space/time
This is the LAST economy or "group" testing option
being offered this academic year. If you have forgotten
to test previously this is a great opportunity to fulfill
the testing requirement in one day!
The number of slots is limited and we will fill them on a first come/first serve
basis.
Individual Testing
What if you don't want the "group" experience but you
would like the benefit of a Woodcock-Johnson administration,
the detailed scores and the informative consultation?
We are continuing to schedule appointments
in the month of June and even through the summer. If
you have missed testing this year please give us a
call. WJ test scores are given at the end of your 2
hour appointment -- no waiting! The DNPE will accept
scores mailed in July (if you were requested send in
your information for inspection by mail).
If you are new to homeschooling or felt you struggled
this year, our group of experienced homeschool moms
and teachers offer detailed consultations to help you
sort out your curriculum needs and your child's learning
characteristics. You may consult our website or blog
for more information.
We also offer testing in Harnett County and the Fayetteville
area.
To recap, those who might want
to consider group testing would be those who:
- Want to get their testing done in one morning or afternoon
- Do not require a long consultation about curriculum (though you may choose to have one at a later time)
- Have children who are doing well and have no special educational concerns
- Have children who excel in reading at a young age and need more accurate reading scores to choose material at the right level
- Have multiple children and want a reduced fee for the Woodcock-Johnson test
- Have taken the Woodcock before and want another set of scores to compare with but do not need the full consultation.

Feedback
from our April group testing
Testing done in a few hours, not days; results in minutes, not weeks!
I was so happy to be able to get both of my children tested in one afternoon
rather than spending days doing it at home myself. There was much less
disruption to our school schedule. The test results are available a few
minutes after your child finishes plus you get a consultation and detailed
explanation of test scores from the testing staff. The Woodcock-Johson
helps you pinpoint areas where your child is excelling and may need an extra
challenge as well as showing areas where they are struggling and may need
some reinforcement. I highly recommend Diane Allen and Associates for
testing.
